A Little About Us

Afsy Kafei: 

Afsy Kafei is from Quito, Ecuador and received her B.A. in Art History from the University of Central Florida in 2012. She has always been drawn to the beauty of historic buildings and hopes to one day work work in historic preservation on the international level. 

Amanda Gruen: 

Amanda Gruen is currently a first year graduate student in Pratt’s Historic Preservation program. She graduated from New York University in 2013 with a B.A. in Urban Design and Architecture Studies and minors in Studio Art and Art History.  Her interest in historic preservation began during her childhood when she moved into a historic home and has since been inspired to work towards saving places that matter.

Angelica Martinez-Sulvaran:

Angelica Martinez-Sulvaran hails from Mexico and is currently a first year graduate student in the Historic Preservation program at Pratt Institute. She graduated from the University of Veracruz with a B.A. in Architecture in 2009. Her interest in Historic Preservation began as she explored the historic center and mid-twentieth century neighborhoods in Mexico City, Mexico.

Nicole Hemler: 

Nicole Hemler is from Hanover, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Philadelphia University with a degree in Architectural Studies and a minor in Historic Preservation in 2013. Nicole became interested in historic preservation when she studied abroad in Rome for a semester last fall where she took an introductory course on how preservation developed in Italy.

Jessica Smith: 

Jessica Smith grew up in central California and graduated with a B.A. in Interior Design from California State University, Fresno in 2011.  Her interest in historic preservation grew as she participated in the restoration of one of the historic houses in downtown Fresno, California  that has aided in the revitalization of the downtown.
